Crew Eats Food

Ship crew periodically consume food and drink items from your cargo hold.
You get a small XP bonus for keeping them fed and a small penalty if they go hungry.
Update! Nov 11, 2024 - Now has configurable game settings and rewards additional XP for crafted & higher tier food
How It Works Every 30 minutes (real time), or after sleeping/waiting, each crew member on your current ship will consume 1 food item, and 1 drink item. This matches the player character's food/drink cycle in the game's built-in survival options, though the timer may not line up exactly. Each fed/hydrated crew member contributes 2% to an XP buff. With a crew of 9, you are potentially getting +18% XP, but are consuming up to 18 items each time. Each crew member that is not fed/hydrated contributes to a 2% penalty. You can end up with both at the same time if you can only feed half your crew. The mod will let you know how much food/drink is remaining in your cargo hold after each event. Extras Vasco doesn't eat or drink, Crew only consume items from your ship inventory (cargo hold). They will NOT consume items out of your Captain's Locker, or your personal inventory. Compatibility Requires only the base game, but works with DLC food & drink items Should be compatible with most mods that don't directly alter ship inventory or crew systems. Should be compatible with any modded food/drink items that are tagged properly (VendorFood and VendorDrink).

1.3Yes Chef! - update 1.3 (Seeking your input)
Latest update introduces additional rewards for crafted food & drink, as well as higher tier stuff you can get from restaurants and bars.
I didn't like that my crew got the same benefit from eating onions and cheese slices as they did from eating Grandpa's Meatloaf, so this version introduces a tier system and modifies the default XP bonus you get. It works like this:
1% for giving a crew member food & drink at all
+0.5% for each higher tier item, so +1% if they get crafted food & drink
+1% again if they get the very highest tier items (those that require Quark-Degenerate Tissues)
The full list of food and drinks that count as higher tier is on the mod description page, but briefly
if it's crafted, and takes at least 3 ingredients to cook
(a few crafted drinks are okay with 2 ingredients - eg. Bullet Coffee)
or if it's a special item you can buy from a tavern or restaurant (Velocity, Blend, Chimera, etc. Some restaurant food)
Packaged and generic food doesn't count as premium (eg. Chucks, CAN-uck), even if it's taken out of the package.
Most commercially packaged beverages don't count as premium (except Blend)
However, I'm not 100% sold on this system yet, and I'd love to get your playtesting opinions! Let me know what you think!
The idea is to encourage crafting & shopping, without being too annoying. Crew members will consume items in order from highest tier to lowest, so they will prefer to consume the crafted stuff in your cargo hold if available.
If you hate this and want it to go away, you can configure the current version to give 0% extra reward for higher tier items and set the default reward back to 2%. -
