New to Starfield Creations

Creations are official add-ons you install from Starfield’s in-game menu. On this site you’ll often see “mods” and “Creations” used together: they mean the same catalog of content. This page is a short player guide for getting started without surprises.

Free vs paid Creations

Free and paid Creations live in the same in-game Creations menu. Paid ones use credits (Bethesda’s in-game currency). You can browse both on this site and filter by price so you know what is free before you open the game.

Achievement-friendly pricing

Almost all achievement-friendly Creations cost at least 100 credits (~$1) unless they have been marked down further because of a sale. If a Creation is free (or cheaper than that floor) and you still want trophies or achievements on that save, double-check that it is actually marked achievement-friendly before you add it.

Saves and the [C] fork

Once you add a non-achievement-friendly Creation to a save, the game forks that save. The forked copy’s name ends with [C], and achievements are disabled on it. You should still have a copy of the save from before you began using Creations. Keep that one if you ever want to go back to an achievement-enabled playthrough.

Fully quit the game

After you change Creations or your load order, fully shut down Starfield instead of relying on Quick Resume. Leaving the game sitting in a suspended state is a common source of odd glitches that a clean relaunch would have avoided.

Missing textures after load-order changes

After you change your load order, there is a good chance your next game load will fail to load some textures (you may see parts of people missing). Fully shutting down the game and relaunching it usually clears it up. If you skip that step, the problem can look like a broken mod when it is really a stale load.

Read descriptions for load order

Read Creation descriptions carefully for guidance on where to put something in your load order. Authors usually list a best place, or placement relative to other mods. You will often have a mod that includes patches to stay compatible with other mods. In those cases you will see something like: load Mod A, Mod B, then the patch for A + B. Patches typically go after the mods they patch.

Where you are when you install or update

Some mods require that you not be in certain locations when you install or update them. A common location to avoid is New Atlantis. One of the safest habits is to save your character at an outpost or in your ship in space first, then apply the Creation change.

New game / NG+

Some mods highly suggest first use on a new game or New Game Plus (NG+). If the description says that, it is usually because the Creation changes starting gear, quests, or world state that is hard to apply cleanly mid-playthrough. Starting fresh (or after NG+) is the lower-friction path for those.
