Description

Achievement-Friendly collection of hard-coded presets for the XBox Ship Builder Configurator for maximum ship size, maximum ship modules and maximum owned ships.

Maximum Ship Size: 400m x 400m x 200m Maximum Ship Modules: 1600 Maximum Owned Ships: 50

These game settings have to be hard-coded on the XBox platform as they cannot be altered on the XBox platform during game play via Game Play Options.

Caveat Emptor

Ships larger than the default 80m x 80m x 40m size limit may adversely impact game play. In particular, larger ships can clip into adjacent structures making parts of the structure, or parts of one's ship, inaccessible. The ship's landing bay may also become inaccessible making bordering/leaving one's ship impossible.

Very large ships, or ships with a large number of modules, may adversely impact game play. There have been reports, particularly from XBox players, that large ships can cause performance issues and in some cases even cause Starfield to crash. The solution to such problems is always to rebuild one's ship to be smaller with fewer modules.

The author has not, as of July 21, 2025, seen reports of players encountering problems with increasing the maximum number of owned ships. However, this plugin does push that limit from its default value of 10 to 50. If one starts to encounter issues when one owns a large number of ships, one should consider reducing the number of owned ships to see if game stability improves.

Possible Hard Limit on Ship Size

There have been some reports indicating that even when one pushes up the game settings for maximum ship size that there is a hard-coded limit in the game engine that limits ships to around 200m in length. If you should find that the Ship Builder UI does not allow one to build ships larger than approximately 200m then you are likely hitting this hard-coded game engine limit. As this limit appears to be coded into the game engine itself, there is nothing that a plugin can do that would allow one to exceed that limit.

Ship Size in the Ship Builder UI

Note that the sizes displayed on the Ship Builder UI floor grid are the distance from the ship's center line. Hence, ships are twice the size that is displayed on the floor grid in the Ship Builder UI. So when you see a marker on the floor indicating 40m, that means that your ship is 80m in size (40m in each direction from the center line).

Load Order

If one has multiple mods that try to make hard-coded changes to the same game settings altered by this plugin, the one that appears last in the load order will be the one that determines the limits.

Plugin Removal

This plugin alters a collection of internal game settings that control not only the maximum ship size in the ship builder, but also the maximum size of a land-able ship. If one constructs an over-sized ship and then removes this plugin, the ship will remain usable in space, but one will not be able to land the ship nor modify the ship in the ship builder.

If one is going to remove this plugin, one should first ensure that all of one's ships conform to the default size limits of 80m x 80m x 40m.
