This mod adds several features geared toward a survival styled carry weight system with fully functional backpacks.

The three main systems of this mod include an overhauled carry weight system, functional backpacks, and a change to how Over-Encumbrance is handled. Additionally it comes with a few more minor quality of life features such as refillable drink bottles and ease of use apparel/spacesuit mannequin storage functionality for managing apparel loadouts easily.

There are various Gameplay Options to adjust the systems to how you like them or disable certain ones entirely if desired. By default the mod will start after completing One Small Step, however it can be initialised earlier through the gameplay options.

-Functional Backpack System-

This system adds fully functional, wearable backpacks to help you manage your loot.

Three Unique Sizes: You can buy Small, Medium, and Large backpacks from vendors. Each size has its own independent, safe storage container that will never reset.

Dynamic Weight: While worn, the backpack and all its contents weigh zero. When unequipped or dropped, the weight accurately reflects the bag's base weight plus everything inside it.

Quick Access: Equipping a bag automatically adds an "- [Open Backpack]" Aid item to your inventory. Assign it to a hotkey to easily access your storage.

Smart Auto-Packing: By default, picking up items while wearing a backpack will stash them directly in the bag. The system is designed to be smart: if you already have a stack of a specific item in your main inventory (like ammo or digipicks), new pickups will stack there instead. You also always retain a button prompt for standard looting.

World Interactions & Display: Backpacks found in the world auto-equip when picked up. You can craft Backpack Hooks for your outposts and homes to display or hang them. Backpacks can also be opened and looted directly while hanging or in the world.

System Integration: Resources stored in an equipped backpack are automatically available at crafting workbenches. Note that security forces will search your bag if you are arrested, and ship scanners will detect stored contraband.

Customization: Medium and large backpack colours can be modified at a Spacesuit Workbench.

-Carry Weight System-

Reworks how carry capacity functions to reflect realistic limitations on pocket space.

Weightless Equipped Gear: Items you are actively wearing or wielding weigh nothing making it an intentional choice to grab the right gear for the task before leaving base.

Reduced Capacity: Limits your total carry capacity leaning into the use of backpacks for extra carry space. (Note: Ammo weight remains completely governed by vanilla gameplay options).

-Over-Encumbrance System-

Changes the physical consequences of bearing heavy loads, focusing on momentum and risk rather than hard movement locks.

Risk of Injury: You are not restricted from running, but attempting to run or sprint while over-encumbered carries a constant risk of physical injury.

Movement Changes: Movement speeds are adjusted while burdened. Your walking speed remains unaffected when overburdened, but your running speed is noticeably slowed down.

-Water Bottle System-

A refillable bottle system designed to work seamlessly alongside vanilla sustenance settings or survival mods.

The Canteen Item: Picking up or buying bottles grants a reusable "- [Drink From Canteen]" Aid item that can be assigned to a hotkey.

Fractional Use: Each use consumes one-third (1/3) of the bottle's contents, allowing for multiple drinks per bottle.

Refilling: Empty bottles can be refilled at any kitchen sink or ship galley. You also have the option to drink directly from sinks and galleys without using your bottled water.

-Mannequin Loadout System-

Streamlines gear management by allowing you to store and equip outfits directly to and from display mannequins with a single button press.

Direct Storage & Equipping: While looking at a mannequin, you will receive prompts to "Store Outfit", "Store Spacesuit", "Equip Outfit", or "Equip Spacesuit", depending on what you currently have equipped.

Full Sets: Choosing to store a spacesuit automatically transfers your currently equipped suit, helmet, and boost pack at the same time.

Equipment Fade to Black: An optional setting that briefly fades the screen to black while outfits are being stored or equipped. This maintains immersion by hiding the sudden visual outfit change.
