Character spotlights, Playstation mods, and fixes
Just wanted to share some of the latest we've managed to work in since the last time I posted.
Character Spotlights
GamerGalMori has been posting these character spotlights on Facebook for awhile now. I've always loved learning about the talents of the voice actors used for the game. Many of the voices are just superbly done. I offered to build a space for them on the site so others could browse them at any time, and she accepted - giving them a home here outside of social media. Be sure to like/comment on them. GamerGalMori currently posts a new one every Thursday in addition to running the FB group, Starfield Pals (link added to Resources on the homepage, too).
Article Spaces
In support of things like the Character Spotlights, I built the concept of article spaces that selected users can contribute to for various things.
Honestly, I don't yet have a solid idea for another use for article spaces quite yet. The only other thing I can think of that seems to be lacking online for Starfield is a good home for written documentation on creating mods. I know there are several videos (and video series) that help creators, and I know there's a subreddit dedicated to Creation Kit plus lots of Discords where authors get support. If any mod authors read this, let me know if you think a dedicated article space to help others could be useful.
More Mod Info and Filter Options
On individual mod pages like kine's Apollo Skin Pack, you'll now see two new things:
- Any mods that have required other mods or DLC will include a big block calling that out
- The full description is under an About tab and there's a History tab that gives you the same info available on Bethesda's Creation pages.
Also, on the Mods lander, you'll see several new options:
- More ways to filter by platform as the Playstation pool of mods has grown to over 500 already.
- Switched mod results to show text from the mod's overview whenever available
- Filter options panel is sticky on desktop and mobile so it is always accessible
- More Pricing filter options (eg: max credit for those trying to find options below X number of credits)
- Achievement-friendly badges and filter option (now that we have more achievements players can earn)
- More ways to sort: Last Updated, Most Expensive
Two areas still on my list to investigate are how to surface install sizes and how to tell when a paid mod is on sale.
Fixes for Mod Authorship Claiming
I pushed some updates out this morning to make it clearer that an author need only submit one authorship claim from any of their mod pages - not one claim per mod. We're just linking your user account on this site to your creator username on Bethesda. It still requires proof and approval, but just one claim submission can accomplish that. Now, after submitting your claim, all the mods will say "pending" where the Claim button once was until I can approve it. I apologize for being unclear on that before and leading some to do more work than was needed. It's just a wrinkle that should now be ironed out for others.
I have more plans for stuff to add for mod authors on the site.
Freestar Collective
Article spaces are great way for players to journalize and share their experiences, akin to a Captain's log. Also as you've said, it is also a great way for authors to document their work and processes. Overall, it is a great way to talk (or write/blog) about anything Starfield. The best part is that everyone now has multiple ways to share their experiences of the game.. Thanks GK! o7
