Armor or gear in Starfield comes in a variety of styles and in parts, allowing for a lot of customization. On top of that, there are traits and mods that alters the value of use of the gear to the player. Like weapons, there are traits that appear on specific tiers, and are favored over others per the player's personal preferences. With that, mods are more accessible- not depending on luck, but rather materials and skills to apply, and yet there will be specific mods favored over others as a personal choice. So, what are you guy's favorite traits and mods, favorite combos, and are they more general or specific in usage?

The legendary trait I'm always hunting on new characters for my armor is Weapon Holsters. I tend to carry several guns, and halving their weight is a big bonus to me. I try to never adjust the carry capacity on my character, and it's a bit tedious to use companions to help carry things. A close second for me is Sentinel. If you ever shoot from cover, reducing damage by 75% while stationary is a huge bonus to defense. I also like the one that gives 75% less oxygen use when over-encumbered (I forget what it's called).
As for mods, early on, I found myself too often using the very nice looking and a bit overpowered Nomad armor. Lately, I've been favoring the RTM Mark II suits. It comes in multiple color skins, and the crimson + black combo is my favorite (whether I'm Crimson Fleet or not). There's a lot more to browse in our Best Armor and Weapons Mods collection.
I've also been experimenting with the KZ suits. KZ's suits and clothing are all skin-tight and, for female characters, often barely there - reinforcing the cliche with female armor. Some go a bit too far for me, personally, but I'm glad it's there for those that want that. I just wish KZ stuff played better with some of zone79's accessories. Combining the two in any way usually ends up with your legs or arms missing.
Kine's vanilla skin packs are awesome. I've been trying some of those lately. The best suits in vanilla, for survival, are also the ones that make you look like you're from Starcraft or Warhammer. They're huge! And it shows in their mass. I keep meaning to snag some suits and color code my crew. We just won't use red for away missions. 🤣
