Advanced Needs - Auto Eat and Drink
UPDATE: There is a new, free to craft item in the Industrial Workbench, that when consumed, will recycle all the scripts in this mod, in case weird timing comes into effect (Ive had weird timing happen as a result of using the NAT of all things...).
NOTE: This mod REQUIRES Shattered Space DLC and The Perfect Recipe creation in order to run.
Fallout 4's Advanced Needs is starting to poke its head into the realm of Starfield, albeit in a modular way, as opposed to a big overhaul mod. It is intended to be used by those who run with Sustenance set to "Positive and Negative", although anyone really can use it.
It grew tiring running out of hydration or satiation mid-combat or in dialogue or when sitting up from waiting or waking from sleeping or piloting my ship. So, this mod automates all of that! No need to put anything in special containers or anything like that, it runs directly from your inventory.
The mod does not include alcohol into its operations, as automating your upcoming addictions is not what this is all about. Everything else from the base game, Shattered Space and the vindaloo from the Perfect Recipe will be used. The mod will prioritize prepared foods (purchased and crafted) over your raw recipe ingredients, although if you run out of prepared foods, it will start to chip away at your produce and grains.
All you need to do is install this, enable it in your load order, doesn't matter where, its override free, and then once in game, just eat or drink something and the whole automated system will kick in and do its thing. It can be installed at any time in your game.
The mod is aware of the Nutrition skill, so internal timers will adjust based on your skill level. The mod will ALWAYS eat and drink 1 minute before the normal "hungry / dehydrated" kicks in, so you never have to worry about that. And if you run out of food/drink that are applicable, it will tell you so. It is also "NG+ aware", so the initial welcome popup message will not display on NG+ runs.
Thats about it. Just a nice QoL mod that I made for myself to allow me to enjoy the "survival mechanics" of the sustenance mode, but not having to constantly go into my inventory to manage it.
Side note: It is a VERY small script that runs this automation (4kb) with two internal timers. Very low resource utilization. If you do notice, in the ultra slim chance, that one of the timers gets hung up, the mod is coded in such a way that simply manually eating and drinking will force restart both timers and get things running again. This is extremely unlikely to happen though, but figured I'd mention this anyways, so you can be assured it lives up to the "a FlashyJoer mod" quality that's expected. :)
Release notes
Xbox
-
1.10Reduced length of auto consume timers by 1 minute, as the mod seems to be taking almost the same amount, if not more, time than the food items have in their fed/hydrated stacks.
-
1.09Final Release Build.
Removed the auto-updater function as it is 1) no longer required, and 2) allows the mod to reset silently when first installed and when going into NG+. The mod sits latent until you eat or drink something, so nothing you need to do, aside from consume, to get the mod running on new games or NG+s. -
1.08Recoded the mod refresh items core script.
Recoded the mod auto-update script.
Merged PS5 build with this mod page, -
1.07I somehow missed some food and drink items in the formlists this mod uses. Not sure why, but realized while playing today, the mod was saying I had no food or drink and yet, my inventory was flush. Anyways, fixed it.
-
1.06Debug item to refresh main scripting added to Industrial Workbench.
-
1.05Minor code massaging.
-
1.04Code correction on auto updater function and main consumption script.
-
1.02Adds a mod auto-updater function to refresh all scripting every time the mod is updated.
Added randomizer to what is eat and drank, rather than pulling the first alphabetically sorted item you have.
Added more refresh checks against the Nutrition skill, so timer refresh is more accurate. -
1.01Small update that refines some logic gates controlling how the "Welcome" message appears. Functionally, no difference in how the mod works otherwise.
Also, PC version was added for those requesting it. -
