Operative – Ryujin Quest Expansion

Ryujin Industries is one of Starfield's most compelling factions, but its questline ends just as things get interesting. Operative picks up where the vanilla game leaves off, expanding Ryujin into a full-blooded faction with new radiant contracts, standalone side quests, and a new storyline that deepens the moral complexity at the heart of what Ryujin actually is.

Radiant Missions

Eight new radiant contracts are added to both the Ryujin Mission Board and the Bounties board, covering everything from package retrieval and hostage extraction to pickpocketing, smuggling, and planetary hunts. The Ryujin Mission Board is also available as soon as you start the storyline, so you can start building your reputation before you ever set foot in Ryujin Tower. The Bounties board mission are available to anyone, whether they join Ryujin or not. The mission types available increase over time, as you do more of the Ryujin main quests.

Side Quests

Due Dilligence — Doing three radiant missions for Ryujin from the Bounty Board catches Ryujins eye. A mission that looks like a simple extraction turns out to be something else entirely. No kills allowed. Giving you an immersive reason to take a desk job at Ryujin.

Bad for Business — The gang war between the Strikers and the Disciples is cutting into Ryujin's bottom line. End it however you see fit; Ryujin doesn't much care how. Designed as an immersive excuse to join a street gang.

Good Samaritan — Build influence across Neon by helping its citizens. Think of it as networking, Ryujin-style, letting the player experience all Neon has to offer. Inspired by Skyrim's thaneship quests. The number of quests you need to do can be changed using a gameplay setting.

The Storyline: Five Quests, One Question

The core of the mod is a five-mission chain that runs alongside the vanilla questline, gradually revealing a conflict at the heart of Ryujin itself.

This quest chain examines the morality of working for Ryujin, asking the player if they can be better. It shows you the best and worst Ryujin has to offer.

Several quests can be deliberately failed or reported dishonestly. The mod doesn't punish you for having a conscience. All quests are designed so bored Starborn can skip to the end if they have done it all before.

Design Philosophy

Operative uses only assets already present in the base game, no DLC required. Everything fits within the world Bethesda built. The goal is quests that feel like they belong, while giving Ryujin the moral weight it always deserved.

The mod is designed to allow players immersive roleplaying excuses to do all the content Neon has to offer. It adds missions both before and after the Ryujin storyline, allowing you to spend a whole playthrough as a Ryujin Operative.

A feature has been added so Companions automatically wait outside Ryujin Tower, adding extra immersion. This can be toggled on or off using a gameplay setting.

Compatibility

  • Should be compatible with anything without patches needed.
  • Load order won't matter.
