NPC Clothing & Inventory Control

Have you ever wanted to change an NPC's clothing or equipped weapon? Do you think The Hunter needs a style update? Is there an item or piece of equipment you can't find, and a selfish NPC is holding onto it? Have you spawned new NPCs on your ship, and now you want to give them their new uniforms? Then this is the mod for you.

On a shelf next to a potted plant in your room at the Lodge, you'll find a mysterious box that contains a most impressive item - the NPC Clothing & Equipment Controller!

The NPC Clothing & Equipment Controller looks like a small knife, but don't let that fool you - it doesn't cause any harm, and no one will mind if you give them a little poke with it. If you tap someone with the NPC Clothing & Equipment Controller and wait 1 second, the next time you talk to them you will be given access to their inventory as if they were a teammate. After 15 seconds, or after unequipping the Controller, this effect will wear off and you can speak to them normally.

Notes:

By design, the Controller will not work on current teammates, followers, companions, or crew. It will also intentionally not work on children.

The Controller takes advantage of the Teammate system, very briefly adding the target as a Teammate and enabling Command state, then disabling that state after 1 second. If you use the Controller on an NPC then immediately talk to the target instead of waiting 1 second, you may accidentally give them a command such as Follow, and they may try to follow you around. If this happens, simply wait 15 seconds until you can speak normally to them, poke them again with the Controller, and quickly talk to them again to command them to Wait; they'll stop waiting for you after 15 seconds and resume normal behavior.

If you use my Spawn NPCs and Erase NPCs mods, you can spawn an NPC, take its clothing, erase it, and repeat as much as you like, to collect whatever equipment you like from included NPCs.

This could allow you to acquire outfits not normally obtainable, by taking them from NPCs: Ularu Chen's outfit, Benjamin Bayu's outfit, and more are now easily acquirable.

You could use the Controller as a replacement Pickpocket mechanism, with no criminal repercussions.

Some NPCs have hidden spacesuits, so if you unequip and take their clothing, they will equip those. Others have "Playable" space suits, so if you want them to wear only undergarments, simply unequip their space suits as well as their clothing.
