Case of Holding

VERSION 1.5 UPDATE You will not be able to transfer the contents of the case into the Quantum Entanglement Device if it contains books. This restriction has been added to avoid potential problems with books with scripts attached causing quest issues in NG+. The restriction can be disabled in Gameplay Options. See below for more details.
PLAYSTATION AND 1.16.236.0 (FREE LANES) UPDATE In addition to the Case of Holding, you will also get a Quantum Storage Teleporter added to your inventory, which you can use with the new Quantum Entanglement Device added in the Free Lanes update to take everything in your Case of Holding with you into New Game+.
DESCRIPTION This adds a storage case to the misc section of your inventory, which has infinite carry weight, and can optionally be linked to workbenches. There are a few possible uses for this, maybe you want to move certain items out of your main inventory so it's less cluttered while still always having access to them. With restrictions disabled in Gameplay Options, contraband stored in the case will not get picked up by scans either, if that's something you're into. It was made with a specific issue in mind, the stutter that happens when opening and closing the hand scanner if you have too many items in your inventory; now you can offload anything you don't need immediate access to by putting it in the case and avoid that. There are other ways of doing this of course, like linked storage mods, but I just wanted a relatively simple D&D-style "bag of holding".
If you access the case while in the pilot's seat, items you transfer from the case will be sent to your ship's cargo hold instead of your inventory. There's a reminder message that pops up for this, it can be disabled in Gameplay Options.
Also in Gameplay Options you'll see a setting to link the case to workbenches, so that you can use resources inside the case as well as in your inventory when crafting. This only applies to workbenches, not the ship/outpost decorator, for those you will still need to transfer resources you want to use into your inventory. If you've entered and exited a workbench in first person view, you will need to switch to third person (you can switch back to first person again right after if you like) if you want to re-enter the workbench; if you don't, resources stored in the case may not be available.
X-Tech needs to be in the player's inventory in order to craft legendary armor and weapon mods, so it's silently moved from the case into your inventory when accessing a workbench, and moved back again when you leave. There's a Gameplay Options setting for this in case it needs to be disabled for some reason.
You can craft an optional item at industrial workbenches to provide access to the case from an item that you can add to your favorites. This will also appear under miscellaneous items like the case itself, and is called "Case of Holding" (no leading asterisk). Two will be added to your inventory when you craft it, so that it doesn't appear in new items after each use. The main case (with the asterisk) will remain in your inventory as it's a quest item, this is done for safety so that you can't lose access to the case and anything inside if your inventory is emptied.
By default the case does not allow you to store contraband inside it, but if you wish you can disable this in Gameplay Options.
QUANTUM STORAGE TELEPORTER With this device you can transfer the whole contents of your case into and out of the Quantum Entanglement Device in the lodge that was added in the Free Lanes update. This bypasses the storage limit on the device. The Quantum Entanglement Device only becomes buildable after a certain point in the main storyline. One Quantum Storage Teleporter is added to your inventory automatically, this is so you can retrieve your items as soon as you start New Game+ without having to go to the lodge first (see the video) and you can build more at an industrial workbench in case you lose it.
By default you will not be able to transfer the contents of your Case of Holding into the Quantum Entanglement Device at the lodge if it contains any books. This is a safety measure, as certain books may have scripts attached to advance quests when they are read or transferred to the player's inventory, so taking them into your next universe and reading or transferring them there could lead to improper quest progression. This restriction can be turned off in Gameplay Options, but you will still be reminded to check any books you intend to send into NG+ to make sure none might be linked to quests. There's no way to tell from a script which books might be problematic, so it's probably best to play it safe and only send generic books and slates if you send any at all, the kind of titles that you can find multiple times.
COMPATIBILITY AND NOTES I'm linking the crate to workbenches on use with LinkedWorkbenchContainerKeyword for the workbench option, and removing that link upon leaving them. The game itself doesn't seem to use this for workbenches you build or for ones placed elsewhere, at least I've not found any in testing. But just in case, the script checks for an existing linked reference and won't link the case if it finds one. You'll get a notification on leaving the workbench if that happens.
If you're using another mod that similarly links storage to workbenches, like SKK Universal Stash, you will need to disable the workbench link for Case of Holding in your Gameplay Options, or the two mods may conflict.
CREDITS This mod combines the Case of Holding from "xtcrefugee's miscellaneous small mods" with the optional favorites addon, also available there. It is otherwise identical. It was recently requested for Creations, so here it is.
