DESCRIPTION:
Overhaul the terrain textures and water of the Swamp Biome on Porrima IV-d to transform it into a vast ice sheet with surface meltwater. Hope you brought a good pair of crampons or ice skates.
Porrima IV-d is a pretty good place to set up a scenic outpost because the moon is tidally locked to a gas giant, and its Swamp Biome is one of the few wetlands found in a snowy region. However, the snowy landscape looks quite similar to other "Frozen" biomes, and the ice shards and chunks scattered across the scenery don't blend well with the snow. Additionally, the water is "biological" and unsafe for swimming.
This mod changes the appearance of the moon's Swamp Biome into a stunning, vast ice sheet with surface meltwater. The biome has been renamed to "Ice Sheet" to reflect this change. The water is also safe for swimming (it's above freezing, so it's fine!). The goal is to make the moon an interesting place to visit or establish an outpost, especially for those who enjoy cold climates. Essentially, the mod is a "skin pack" for the biome. Apart from changing the water type (via a keyword swap), it does not modify gameplay mechanics such as flora, fauna, resources, other keywords, or quests.
Various changes: The biome has been renamed to "Ice Sheet".
Retextures of the terrain-
- The snow has turned into solid ice with the satisfying crampon crunch.
Water changes-
- The water is safe for swimming.
- There is ice floating on the water.
- The water is also much clearer, making it even more inviting.
INSTALLATION: Download the main file via a mod manager. The mod can be installed mid-game.
COMPATIBILITY AND LOAD ORDER: This mod modifies the following vanilla records and will conflict with other mods that edit the same thing:
-
Biome (BIOM) ArchipelagoNoLife10
-
Planet Data (PNDT) PorrimaIV-dPlanetData
This mod does NOT edit worldspaces or cells.
Load order:
- This mod should be loaded after mods that edit biomes.
Note on the biome:
- Porrima IV-d is tidally locked to the gas giant Porrima IV. If you want a constant view of the planet, land on the side of the moon facing the planet. (If you can't see a gas giant after landing, you're on the wrong side.)
- The biome covers only a small part of the moon, so it can be hard to locate. Even if you find it, the procedural generation may not give you the terrain tiles with water, which is the most stunning part of the landscape.
Tips:
- Make a hard save while in orbit.
- Try to find the "Ice Sheet" biome and land. Avoid the "Coast" biome and the transition areas between biomes.
- After landing, check the surface map and see if there's any water nearby. If not, either fast travel to another "Ice Sheet" biome, or, if you don't want the moon to be full of landing markers, reload the hard save and land on another area.
- If you're lucky, you may find terrain tiles with shallow water like the one in the video below. The location is in the centre of this map, and you can try pattern matching to see if there's one near your position. Note that the tile can be mirrored or rotated. The one in the top left is the mirror image of the centre tile.
