Temple Puzzles Your Way

Temple Puzzles Your Way gives you control over Starfield’s Starborn temple puzzles and power progression. Keep the original experience, shorten the chase, skip passing through anomalies, or let each trip through the Unity make the process faster and your powers stronger.
Includes configurable puzzle requirements, temple rewards, Unity power upgrades, and targeted fixes for several Power From Beyond quest issues.
How It Works
In vanilla Starfield
Temple puzzles normally require passing through five floating anomalies before the rings become accessible. That routine stays the same as you continue finding temples and crossing the Unity.
Powers are learned and upgraded by completing temples, requiring repeated temple visits across universes to reach their maximum rank.
With Temple Puzzles Your Way
Choose how many anomalies you need to pass through to complete a Starborn temple puzzle in Gameplay Options.
The UNITY setting recognizes your experience across universes: each passage through the Unity reduces the requirement by one, eventually allowing the puzzle to complete without passing through anomalies.
You can also upgrade learned powers through the Unity, control whether temples upgrade powers, and receive Quantum Essence as an additional temple reward.
Configuration
Open Gameplay Options → Temple Puzzles Your Way.
Temple Puzzle
- UNITY (Default): The normal anomaly requirement is reduced by one for each passage through the Unity, down to zero.
- VANILLA: Retains the original anomaly requirement regardless of Unity progression.
- NO PUZZLE: Completes the puzzle after the temple’s opening sequence.
- 1 ANOMALY: Pass through one anomaly to complete the puzzle.
- 2 ANOMALIES: Pass through two anomalies to complete the puzzle.
- 3 ANOMALIES: Pass through three anomalies to complete the puzzle.
- RANDOM: Pass through between one and five anomalies to complete each temple puzzle.
Power of the Unity
Choose how entering the Unity affects powers you have already learned.
- DISABLE (Default): The Unity does not upgrade your powers.
- SCALE: Raises learned powers to match the number of times you have entered the Unity, up to rank ten. Powers already above that rank remain unchanged.
- ADVANCE: Increases learned powers by one rank each time you enter the Unity, up to rank ten.
For example, after three passages through the Unity, SCALE brings learned powers below rank three up to rank three. ADVANCE instead adds one rank to each eligible learned power with each passage.
Neither mode grants powers you have not learned.
Phased Time is included in SCALE but excluded from ADVANCE because it already receives upgrades through the Buried Temple.
Temples Upgrade Powers
- ENABLE (Default): Temples teach new powers and upgrade powers already learned.
- DISABLE: Temples teach new powers without upgrading powers already learned.
This setting works independently of Power of the Unity. You can use temples to discover powers and the Unity to upgrade them.
Disabling temple upgrades also prevents the Buried Temple from upgrading Phased Time. SCALE can still raise it to the appropriate rank.
Temples Give Quantum Essence
Choose an additional reward of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 Quantum Essence when receiving a temple’s power, or select DISABLE (Default).
The reward applies whether you are learning a new power or revisiting a temple for a power you already know. It can be used with temple power upgrades enabled or disabled.
Starborn Temple Quest Fixes
Includes targeted corrections and automatic recovery for several temple quest problems:
- Missing Scanner Anomaly markers: Restores prematurely disabled landing markers while an active quest still requires finding its temple.
- Incorrect quest targets: Corrects conditions in four Power From Beyond quest variants that checked another quest’s progress.
- “Go to […]” in Into the Unknown: Attempts to recover a failed first-temple quest startup and refreshes the travel objective once its location becomes available.
This feature was included to address potential issues, but shouldn't cause any issues on their own. May be removed in the future upon confirmation an official fix is implemented.
System Behavior & Limitations
- Temple opening animations still play. You must enter the rings to receive your power.
- Lowering the requirement during an active puzzle can complete it on the next normal puzzle check.
- Quest recovery addresses specific failure states. It does not repair every possible missing-temple issue or forcibly reset running quests.
Compatibility & Extensibility
Other Creations that replace the same scripts require a patch.
Vanilla scripts edited
- SBRingPuzzleNEWScript: Configurable temple puzzle requirements.
- SBPowerCollectionActivatorScript: Configurable temple power and Quantum Essence rewards.
- ArtifactPower_Advancement: Controls whether already learned powers receive upgrades.

- MQ_TempleQuest_Freeform01 (0001C077)
- MQ_TempleQuest_Freeform02 (0001C076)
- MQ_TempleQuest_Freeform03 (0001C075)
Each quest has two objective-target conditions corrected to check its own progress. Other Creations editing these quests may require a patch.
Other mods that automatically change power ranks when entering the Unity can interfere with the Power of the Unity settings.
The marker and first-temple startup recovery features use a separate listener without replacing the vanilla temple quest script.
This is the successor to my other creation on Nexus Mods The Power of the Unity. If you have it, you should remove it when installing Temple Puzzles Your Way.
