Nomad Spacesuit
One of the oldest and still one of the very best armor/suit mods you can get in the game - both in its look and stats. As you level, you can eventually get legendary versions that come with the best perks like Sentinel and Weapon Holsters.
Eit Clothiers Plus - (ZBB)
One of zone79's best mods with several great pieces added to the Eit Clothiers shop.
Encounters! a GRiNDTerra Mod
This is gradually becoming one of my favorite mods to enhance the experience of exploring a planet. Now I can be walking around a planet or moon and suddenly hear gunfire in the distance. I look around to see tracer fire in some direction. There's no POI markers for it. They are just random encounters I can ignore or join in. I tend to join in and, at some point, lob a NPC Spawner Dangerzone grenade to add to the growing chaos :)
Dark Universe: Takeover
When I first started using this mod, I liked the bases but thought they were all pretty much the same large, square box forts with very few differences. kaos_nyrb, who continues to be an amazing mod creator for Starfield, did an update that helped diversify the POIs to match their biomes better. It really helped with immersion. I appreciate and admire his continued dedication to providing quality, free mods for this game we love.
Auto-Solve Temple Puzzles
There's not much more in Starfield I hated more than the temple puzzles. I hated trying to fly, in zero-g, through those sparkles over and over again. This was one of the earliest mods I grabbed and it continues to be a must have if you feel the same.
Dark Universe: Crossfire
I enjoy the ship combat in Starfield (though it has areas for improvement), so grabbing this mod to add more POIs in space was a no-brainer. I like the variety on hand, and this mod greatly helps you achieve the requirements needed to level Piloting early in the game (especially if you're not planning to join Vanguard with its pilot test simulator).
Place Doors Yourself
Such a terrific mod for the ship builders that want maximum control over the layout of their finely crafted ships. Without this mod, the game will try to pick the best placement for doors and ladders - something that usually doesn't go the way you want it to. Just make sure you grab any patches for custom hab mods you might want to use.
Falkland Systems Ship Services
There's a lot to love with this mod. Not only does it give you amazing new ship habs and parts but you also get some cool new ships to purchase (which will be familiar to some Star Wars fans), a new vendor location in New Atlantis, and some cool new clothing gear. The interior of the new habs is where this really shines. Some of the Chrome variations for the exteriors may appeal to some as well (though I often found it clashed too much with my ship design preferences). Grab any patch mods that help it play nicely with other popular mods like Place Doors Yourself (PDY).
Cryomancers - A New Faction
zone79 is an excellent mod author for Starfield with so many amazing armor and clothing mods and overhauls. This is his first larger effort adding an entire faction and quest line for a new set of weapon and armor add-ons. I love the design of them and zone79 makes clever use of parts of existing POIs merged together in unique ways to form most of the faction's new POIs. The companions are a bit lackluster (I was really hoping for a Brute after seeing the setup for the first couple) and the ship did not meet my expectations. The player home is pretty neat and well thought out, but I tend to not use them much if I'm on a playthrough with Darkstar enabled.
Not Yet Watchtower
Watchtower is a great mod, but it does tend to take over your universe once it becomes active. After playing through it a couple of times, I began wanting a NG+ that was free from it for a bit. That's where this mod excels. It adds a setting to prevent Watchtower's takeover from starting until a configurable point in the quests of the main storyline.
LUMI Rifle System
I loved the Hard Target in the game already for my sniper needs, but - after trying Bub200's Laredo repeater and loving it - I decided to give this one a try as well. It becomes available sooner and more powerful than the Hard Target fairly early in the game. Its value in the game economy is quite high compared to vanilla guns, and I have found it appears quite often in enemy drops. As such, I find myself selling quite a few of these to help fund my ship building efforts. I love all the modifications available to help it vary between a sniper weapon and fully automatic. The reload animation seems borrowed from the A-99, so it sometimes looks a bit odd on some barrels.
Laredo Lever Action Rifle Kit
I love the look and sound of this weapon. I was never that much of a fan of the lawgiver. This just feels so much cooler for the space cowboys out there. It comes with lots of modifications - turn one into a sniper and one into a shotgun if you like. The animations are smooth and it plays nicely with Darkstar should you be using that mod.
