Social skills can really change the dynamic in combat, but it is hard to access the scanner, select the target, and select the social skill, which will also put away your weapon. With Social Skills Extended, you won’t have to compromise; you can now use social skills while aiming at your nearby target, making those social skills more accessible and therefore more useful in combat.
The skills will be presented as Activate options while aiming your weapon at a target. Which options are available will depend on which skills you have unlocked. Currently, Starfield offers the following social skills for use on humans: Diplomacy, Instigation, Intimidation, and Manipulation. Similar choices are offered for robots, if you have the Robotics skill, and creatures, if you have the Xenosociology skill. These options are: Pacify, Flee, Frenzy, and Control. If a skill is used on a target and fails, a message is displayed. Audio feedback is also given for success or failure, same as it is in the scanner. If the social skill attempt fails, a cooldown is applied before the social skill can be used again. A configuration option is also enabled by default which will prevent another skill attempt from happening while the target is still in combat. Social skills can be used by aiming your weapon regardless of whether you are in combat with the target. This is also configurable.
