Non-Lethal Framework
By korodic
Community Rating
Non-Lethal Framework adds the ability to restrain hostile humanoid NPCs non-lethally using a newly added, thoughtfully integrated item - handcuffs.
How It Works
Restraining NPCs
You can use the new Restrain interaction option on NPCs who have been knocked out using EM weapons or pacified through the Diplomacy or Manipulation social skill perks. Restrained NPCs will be disarmed and will remain restrained until you attempt to restrain another NPC elsewhere.
NPCs pacified by the Diplomacy social skill perk will act as if surrendering by raising their hands, rather than returning to normal behavior.
Follow and Release
Restrained NPCs can be ordered to follow you using the Follow interaction option. While following, the Release option will not be available. Order them to stay and once seated they can be released using the Release interaction option.
Releasing an NPC returns your handcuffs and removes their hostility. Released NPCs will return to their normal behaviors after leaving the area. After killing a restrained NPC, you may also pick your handcuffs back up.
Handcuffs
Handcuffs can be crafted at the industrial workbench and have been added to the following leveled lists via script for compatibility and immersion:
- Trade Authority (global list)
- UC Distribution
- UC Surplus
- Security Guards (global list and one quest-related dead guard list)
Note: Due to changes in recent game updates, you must bash or damage KO'd NPCs to get interaction options to appear. A workaround is available - install Simple Immersive Looting or Shades Immersive Looting, which adds a default activation option that allows Non-Lethal Framework's interaction options to display on KO'd NPCs.
Compatibility & Extensibility
Non-Lethal Framework was designed to be used with Useful Brigs. No patch required.
Thanks

3.0.3* Bug fix: Added explicit check to ensure NPC is not a follower using existing NLF keyword. This can avoid seeing the restrain option when a different spell is used that has the vanilla diplomacy effect.
* Bugfix: Added a check to ensure that the diplomacy spell is removed after attempting to dispel it. If the magic effect is still there, but the vanilla diplomacy spell was already dispelled, then a new spell we are not familiar with must have been used. So, we will dispelallspells to ensure it was removed.
* This version should play nice with Plunder - Improved Piracy and Captains Matter. -
3.0.2* Bug fix: Corrected packaging issue, missing nif is now included.
-
3.0.1Includes new and improve handcuffs models expertly designed by MalloyInc. Please check out, follow, and support MalloyInc for more great additions to Starfield!
-
3.0* The ESM has been changed from FULL master to a SMALL master. Please release all captives, uninstall Non-Lethal Framework, make a new save with Non-Lethal Framework uninstalled, then install the new version.
* Bug fix: Adjusted conditions for Restrain to avoid being shown on companions in certain situations.
* Added inventory icons for handcuffs in the industrial workbench. -
2.6* New feature: Now supports patchless integration with Useful Brigs. Please ensure you are using the latest version of both in order for this feature to work.
-
2.5.2Hotfix to prevent restrain options from appearing on mannequins.
-
2.5.1Hotfix to make surrender markers ignored by sandbox. There isn't any scenario where you'd *randomly* want a non-hostile NPC to use the surrender pose.
Hotfix includes a necessary correction to the cleanup of old surrender markers that weren't being deleted. -
2.5NPCs pacified by the Diplomacy social skill perk will now surrender to the player by staying put and putting their hands up, as opposed to resuming their normal behavior.
-
2.4.1This is a hotfix for v2.4, where I made animations work better, but accidentally removed code which made NPCs wake from being KO'd. Now NPCs will awake when being restrained, as they were meant to.
-
2.4Tweaked script for better timing with animations and changed flow of AI packages as to not mess with AnimFlavor of AI package when moving restrained NPCs.
-
2.3Added support for the social skill perks Manipulation and Diplomacy; adjusted Restrain logic, which now allows you to restain NPCs who aren't knocked out and have successfully been manipulated or pacified using diplomacy.
Restrained NPCs can now be told to follow the player and to sit back down. -
1.00Adjusted Restrain logic, which should prevent restrain options from non-KO'd NPCs (such as the Restrain option on Cora or other children). Children or other NPCs may still be restrained if KO'd (to KO children, you need the Mortal Children mod) or not KO'd and surrendering.
-
1.00Surrendering NPCs (NPCs using the NPCSurrender or NPCKneelingSurrender invisible furniture) may now be handcuffed without being knocked out.
